Bearing Wear Monitoring is a method of monitoring the condition of the three major bearings of a two-stroke crosshead engine. These are main-, crank pin- and crosshead bearings. The method is based on the fact that any change in bearing wall thickness in the loaded part of one of these bearings will result in a corresponding change of Bottom Dead Center (BDC) level of one or more of the crossheads relative to the engine structure. In case of crank pin- or crosshead bearing wear, the BDC level of the cylinder in question will change, while in case of main bearing wear, the BDC level of the two cylinders adjacent to this bearing will change. The primary aim of Bearing Wear Monitoring system is to detect a bearing failure before it develops to an extent where heat is casing damage to other parts than the bearing shell, such as crosshead pin, crankshaft, or distortion of the crankcase. Such damage will generally be the result if the bearing lining is worn through and contact between the shaft and the bearing shell steel backing occurs.

SECORP Engine Monitoring Systems are built on BWCM hardware and software. They consist of crankcase bearing wear, oil splash temperature monitoring and water in oil.BWCM Engine Monitoring Systems provide improved operational safety, reduced risk of unforeseeable repair costs and optimized monitoring of the engines.The whole control system consists of four parts, the local collection box, communications box, monitoring computer and sensors.
The sensors, including temperature sensor, offset sensor and water-in-oil sensor, are used to collect the corresponding data.
According to acquired data, the monitoring computer will do logic operation and display alarm. Relevant data will be stored in   the database for callback.
The communication box will combine the data from collection box and send it to monitoring computer.
The local collection box is used for data acquisition from sensors.

The diesel engine connectingrode bearing bush is the moving parts which bear the maximum force and reciprocatinginertia force, also the most easily worn parts, which timely suffer the abrasivewear, adhesive wear, fretting wear, fatigue wear, erosion wear and chemicalwear. During normal running, the wear is difficult to detect. When there is abnormalitydue to bearing bush wear, the lube oil temperature must rise. Detecting thelube oil splashing temperature can diagnose the engine fault.

 Water-in-oil Monitoring

When the lube oilcontain water or other impurities, it will raise the emulsification degree oflube oil and make the lube oil can be easily vaporized and produce bubbles. Thiswill not only damage the oil film and bearing bush, but also form air blockingand inpact the normal circulation of lube oil way. The special water-in-oilsensor is used to detect the contents of the water in the lube oil, and give anearly warning to avoid unnecessary damage.

The main bearing temperature sensor is used to measure the temperature of the main bearing oil splashing
Water in Oil The sensor gives continuous measurement of moisture in oil, and oil temperature. Moisture is measured in terms of water activity.
