The Shaft Generator System is an advanced technology that utilizes surplus power from the vessel's main engine to generate electricity. By installing a generator on the main shaft line or reduction gearbox, the system converts mechanical energy from the main engine into electrical energy for supply to the vessel's power grid.

Against the backdrop of low-carbon shipping, the Shaft Generator System has become one of the core technological solutions for improving a vessel's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings.

Core Values & Advantages
——
Significant Fuel Economy: The Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) of the main engine is typically much lower than that of conventional auxiliary engines (generator sets). Using a shaft generator significantly reduces fuel costs for power generation while underway.
Reduced Carbon & Pollutant Emissions: Effectively lowers emissions of CO₂, SOx, and NOx, helping vessels readily comply with IMO's latest environmental regulations.
Lower Maintenance Costs: Reduces the operating hours of auxiliary engines while underway, significantly extending overhaul intervals, minimizing spare parts and lube oil consumption, and lowering engine room noise and vibration.
Flexible Space Layout: Compared to adding an additional auxiliary generator set, the shaft generator system is more compact, offering better optimization of engine room space utilization.
Our Shaft Generator System supports multiple operating modes to suit various voyage requirements:
PTO (Power Take-Off) Mode – Power Generation:The main engine drives the generator to supply power to the entire vessel, suitable for normal navigation.
PTI (Power Take-In) Mode – Boost Mode:The generator operates as an electric motor, feeding energy from the grid back to the shaft system to provide additional torque to the main engine, increasing speed or handling adverse sea conditions.
PTH (Power Take-Home) Mode – Emergency / Harbor Maneuvering:When the main engine fails or during low-emission harbor operations, the auxiliary engine powers the shaft generator, which rotates the shaft to serve as an emergency propulsion source.
Multi-Function Operating Modes
——
Permanent Magnet Technology: Utilizes high-efficiency permanent magnet generators, which are smaller and lighter than conventional synchronous machines while maintaining high efficiency even at low speeds.
Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Control System: Equipped with a high-performance VFD to ensure stable power output with constant frequency and constant voltage to the vessel's grid, even when the main engine speed fluctuates.
Energy Management System (EMS) & Smart Control: The system seamlessly integrates with the vessel's Power Management System (PMS) to enable automatic synchronization, automatic load sharing between the shaft generator and auxiliary generators, and optimal energy efficiency scheduling.
